    Threshold: PCO2: <35mmHg

  • Nasal Breathing + Activity

    What is possible / tolerable for individual?

    - Resting 1 min / walking / running etc.

    - Levels of activity ~ Dysfunction.

  • Hi-Lo Test

    Hand on sternum, hand on abdomen. Seated.

    Which moves first? Which is dominant?

    Upper moves first or dominant = Dysfunction.

  • Waist Movement Assessment

    Measuring tape around base of ribs.

    Breath in & out and measure delta.

    Scores < 1cm / 1-2cm < 2-3cm.

  • Nijmegen Questionnaire

    16 Questions (15 Item available)

    23 or higher: +ve hyperventilation syndrome (HVS) 

    < 23 (but w/ 3 or > in "Often" / "Very Often" DB possible

    Below 20: Considered normal and functional 

  • Self-Evaluation Breathing Questionnaire

    25 Questions

    Scoring - 0, 1, 2 , 3; Never → Very Frequently

    Threshold: >11 - DB potential.

  • Four Question Short Form (Kiesel)

    4 Questions (done with BOLT).

    - 5 Ratings (0=Never — 5=Very often.

    - Often / very often = dysfunction.

  • Maximum Breathlessness Test

    Walk and breath hold.

    Count number of steps.

    Correlate to BOLT > 40 ~ 20 BOLT.

  • Level of Activity

    1. Sedentary.

    10. Competitive Sport.

    (Akin to Tegner Activity Scale)

  • Functional Movement Screening

    Multi-movement test.

    0,1,2,3 = Optimal Movement.
